Artist Statement:
I am a Melbourne artist who shares my passion for the natural world through my expressive abstract paintings. Working with the medium of paint, I draw my inspiration from nature, the colours, motifs and patterns that excite my creative faculty. Painting on canvas and paper I work with organic contours, creating translucent veils of colour that run, pool and bloom, forms that suggest those present in nature’s cycle of growth and change.
I love painting and the process of creating; meditative contrasted with the tension of controlled spontaneity. I enjoy making evocative shapes and patterns, overlapping, manipulating translucent stains of paint that vacillate between the familiar and the unknown. I aim to provide an escape from the real world in my work, a space of contemplation where the ebb and flow of colour and form beckon a dialogue with the viewer. I like to create work that conjures up thoughts and feelings that have a calming influence on the mind of the viewer.
The Australian landscape is a primary source of inspiration for my practice travelling regularly to coastal, rural and desert locations. I explore diverse landscapes north and south of the equator that provide a rich visual experiences these include: Oceania, South Africa, North America, Scandinavia, and Europe – central, southern and north.
