Artist Statement:
My name is Sandra Platas Hernandez, I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. From an early age, I have always been attracted to arts in general, from painting and ceramics to all types of crafting and of course photography.
At the age of 24, I decided to go travelling and study English in Edinburgh, Scotland. After a year I was living there,I started to study photography. This was the most important and life-changing decision I have ever done, as a whole new world opened up to me. I had the opportunity to live in a constant source of inspiration, not only by the city in itself but also by the talented lectures and colleagues I had.
Slowly, I started to develop my personality, interests and style. Influenced by many artists, but someone that really marked my career was Paolo Roversi and his light painting technique. I loved the painterly effect of his work and I was amazed by what he could transmit to me. Soon, I became obsessed with beauty. I only wanted to show, create and find beauty everywhere and in anyone. But at the same time, life and death were also present in my work. Creating situations was and still is what I enjoy the most.
Painting is another of my passions. I love to create abstract compositions using different textures and vibrant colours. Usually, I paint small canvases and wooden staff I find in the street. As in photography, I always try to simulate or capture emotions, trough colours, textures, people, nature or objects. Mainly using acrylic and plaster to create the desired effect.
At the moment, I’m living in a very tiny village in northern Spain. I have been travelling all over the world and being back here, where my mother comes from, it’s a great moment to focus on my art and start showing my work to others. I would love to be one of your members and have the chance to create my little space in this beautiful art world.

Artistic Influences:
Highly influenced by painters like Caravaggio and William Turner. I love the ability they used to have to create those atmospheric paintings and stunning color pallets. Their work really transmitted me with the passion to create. Some other influences were photographers like Paolo Roversi for his light painting technique and painterly effect.
