Artist Statement:
Hello and welcome!
My name is Suzanne and I'm the artist behind Sage Mountain Studio. A name I came up with after a trip to the Kelowna, B.C. after seeing sage growing wild on the side of a mountain.
I started painting when I lived in B.C. but moved to Nova Scotia nine years ago. I've been fairly nomadic, living, working, and traveling all over Canada from one side to the other, building up experience and memories to draw on for my artwork. But I've never felt at home as much as I do living in the wilds of the boreal forest.
I paint northern Canadian landscapes in my own style of rustic impressionism, trying to capture my love of nature and of the north. I'm particularly fond of tall white pine trees and birch trees. I also paint abstracts in a geometric style full of textures and mark-making that are bursting with colour.
In my landscape work I endeavor to create peaceful scenes steeped in the beauty of nature. Places that make you take a deep breath and relax. Whereas my abstracts command a little more attention with their abundant colour, making them great statement pieces. Each style can transform your space, either into a calm oasis to unwind in at the end of the day. Or to spice things up with a unique conversation starter.
If you have any questions about the art, please feel free to contact me. And please follow my Zatista page to be notified when new art is listed.
Thank you for reading. Have an awesome day!

Education:
Eighteen years of experimentation, trial and error, passion and perseverance has led me to develop certain skills and a unique painting style. As a Fashion Design major in college I studied colour, fabrics, and life drawing. I was required to capture my designs on paper as well as construct design boards to showcase my ideas, leading me to experiment with different mediums including ink, pastels, collage, and acrylics.
Exhibitions:
I held a ten year residency in a local cafe/gallery between 2009 and 2019. I have also participated in numerous art walks, art fairs, and artisan markets, and have had many solo and group show exhibitions showcasing my abstract and landscape work.

Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell, Group of Seven, Tom Thompson
