Artist Statement:
“Taking photographs is my way of escapism, my camera allows me to enter another world, to create images that are alive in my imagination.
I am interested in journeys; both the physical and the personal. I enjoy photographing the transitory nature of emotions, spaces and places, leading the observer on their own journey of discovery.
In my abstract figurative series, I position myself in the frame to create thought provoking aesthetic narratives. These artistic expressions tell stories of a person, a place or a transformation of conscious emotions. Rather than being self portraits as such, I use my body in a more symbolic approach.
My images are carefully constructed using natural light and movement to illustrate influences of my love for early photographic techniques.
Using photographic techniques such as multiple exposures, movement and layering, along with traces of staining and smudging similar to those used in traditional painting methods, I merge documentary and landscape images to create a poetic vision with a
painterly and ephemeral, yet timeless quality.
